I have to say, I have a lot of fun with The Crossing interns.

1 Pastor, 6 Interns And A Whole Lot of Excitement

About a year ago, I was given the privilege to launch a young adult ministry – The Crossing. This was a pretty big step for us (New Life Church) because we had never had a full time young adult ministry and the though of adding this sort of ministry was not something that happened without a great deal of dialogue and thought.

Looking back a year later I am incredibly happy with what we have accomplished.

  • 70-80 college students and young professionals engaged regularly in ministry
  • 5 small groups
  • Small groups that go out and serve the community together
  • Regular events and service projects
  • An incredible group of leaders
  • multiple services each month
  • etc. etc. etc.

It’s been a great year!

But this coming fall is a whole new ball game. Here’s why…

  • at least 6 interns
  • weekly services
  • regular presence on 4 college campuses
  • increasing from 5 small groups to 7 or 8
  • Bringing in incredible guest speakers
  • the possibility of a weekly leadership class
  • new branding
  • the establishment of The Crossing as a community ministry, by partnering with other churches/young adult ministries

So while we have a great thing going, We’re kicking things up about 10 notches this fall. Oh it’s going to be a fun ride!

Lead Now

Well, I spent most of the day at a young adult leadership conference and heard some very good speakers. The last one I heard, I wasn’t a fan of at all, thus the early exit. I kind of felt like I had gotten everything out of the conference that I was going to.

It’s pretty exciting to see people passionate about reaching out to young adults. While the the simulcast that I was at was small. God’s doing some great things at a lot of churches.

Creating A Culture Of Social Involvement

Posted in ministry with tags , , on October 2, 2008 by David

I am so excited about beginning to create/foster a culture of social involvement amongst The Crossing. It’s easy to take in God’s word. It’s another thing to practically live it out; especially in terms of being the hands and feet of Christ and reaching out into the community.

Tonight some of our core leaders are getting together and we’re going to talk about just that. What would it look like to have a ministry that is not a ministry of consumption, but production. A ministry that at it’s very core is about leaving a mark on the community and world at large. And not its mark, but God’s mark.

It is my hope that The Crossing will be defined as a young adult ministry, not because it’s ministry for young adults, but because it’s ministry BY young adults.

The Crossing Gathering

We officially launched The Crossing tonight with our first “Crossing Gathering.” It was a great service of worship and vision casting for the ministry. I can’t wait until next month!

Pray(er) For The Crossing

This morning Pastor Troy prayed for The Crossing during each of the the services. He invited up all of the young adults  in the services and prayer over the launching of this new ministry. It was a pretty cool deal. As we begin, if you could keep The Crossing in your prayers it would be much appreciated. This is going to be a ministry that we believe will meet a very real and very practical need in our community.

Here’s to the launching of the crossing.

The Crossing Has Launched

This evening we had the first event for The Crossing. It was a simply evening of ice cream coffee and conversation at Pastor Troy and Jana’s house but it was incredible. We had nearly 40 people at the party doing nothing more than connecting.

While that may not seem like a big deal, that was the vast majority of the young adults at Simply Worship meeting other young adults and having conversations about life.

It was a beautiful thing!
