“Caring Time”

Posted in Friends with tags , , , , on January 21, 2010 by David

On Tuesday evening my wife and I get together with three other amazing couples for our small group time (for those of you who aren’t familiar with “small groups” it’s a bible study). This is without a doubt one of my favorite times during the week. There is nothing like getting together with awesome people to talk about life, study scripture and pray for one another.

Our group has affectionately and somewhat sarcastically dubbed our prayer time at the end, “Caring Time.” This is a time where we share prayer requests and praises. Rita, our note taker jots them down on sticky notes and passes them out to each couple so that we can remember what to pray for and have something to remind us to pray for each other throughout the week.

This last 15 or 20 minutes of our group is the best. I have really come to appreciate the power of being blanketed in prayer by friends and family.

It gives strength.

So while it sounds cheesy, “Caring Time” is incredible and if you do not have people who can blanket you in prayer I suggest that you find some.

What A Team

Part of starting up a new ministry is developing a team that will lead. Over the course of the last several weeks that team has really started to take shape as we’ve begun to develop a core leadership team as well as a group of incredible small group leaders who are committed to taking small groups to the next level.

I can’t tell you how exciting it is to have a group of leaders who deep down inside have a true passion to see lives changed. It’s not just about being social or involved, it’s about making an impact, life change and relationships. Incredible stuff.

Be A Confident Leader

Check out this article on leading with confidence. I am specifically posting it for my children’s ministry small group leaders but if you are in a position of leadership this is an interesting read. This article is from Inc. Magazine and talks about how if you are in a position of leadership, in addition to good communication skills, empowerment, knowledge etc. you need to be confident. People are much more inclined to follow and respect a confident leader. That’s not to say that we always have it figured out, but having confidence in your ability to lead is essential.

On the small group side of things, this confidence should and will come from being prepared, well rested, passionate about what you’re doing, etc.

Just something to think about as you get ready to lead your group.
